Had I not commented on a mysa.com High School football article, I would’ve never known about Derrick. An even stranger fact is we work at the same company but different locations. I am looking forward to meeting him and hopefully can make that happen when I work the Brandeis Vs Stevens game on September 27th on Thursday Night Lights. Thank you Derrick for being a guest blogger.

I remember thinking when Mark asked me to write a guest blog for his site what can I write about? So I decided to write a little about myself and how I enjoy High school football.
I also enjoy the way in which Mark talks about his experiences, and the way his excitement about High School football comes out in his writing.
A little about myself. I played football for Madison in the late 80’s and enjoyed every minute of it. I am currently a High school football official and have a son that plays for Brandeis.
I think Coach Campbell and his staff have done a wonderful job in the school’s first 5 years. Yes I’m a little bias, but if you look at their record and the way he prepares these young men then you would agree with me.
I have been officiating on and off over the last 16 years. You don’t make College of NFL money for officiating this level, but you do feel a sense of pride that you’re helping these kids and serving your community. Our chapters are always looking for officials and we definitely need the help.
During this time of year my wife calls herself a football widow. My week is filled with football except for Tuesdays. Monday is our weekly football officiating meeting, Wednesday is Middle school, Thursday is JV or freshman, Friday is varsity and Saturday and Sunday is me watching college and pro football.
Week 0 had three of the best games in the STATE being played here in San Antonio; Steele VS Madison, Smithson Valley Vs Brandeis, and Lake Travis VS Judson. In my honest opinion these games would have been a great weekend to have a Kick off classic in the Alamodome; this would’ve been exciting for all football fans to see 6 of the top 5A programs in the state in one place. I wish I could’ve watched all three games but I was at the Brandeis game for obvious reasons.
I’m glad Mark invited me to write a guest blog and I hope he invites me back.
Thank you Derrick for the kind comments. I tell my wife I will see her in mid December!!!
Dude, those 3 Week 0 games were unbelievable and that was only the start; we got 15 more weeks of this. Yea, I agree with you; the Dome would’ve been a perfect venue for those 3 games.
Derrick, how about writing some articles on the Brandeis games for me? Hopefully next week, Ynclan will be healthy!
I will be at Farris stadium on Thursday and Lehnoff stadium on Friday night. On Saturday, I will be at the…..oh my gosh, I really want to tell you now but I am waiting for it to be finalized. If it works out, it will be awesome and I will write an article about it on Sunday.
