Usually around this time, I’d be super excited about the start of another high school football season! I’d be rummaging thru football schedules trying to plan 10 weeks! I’d be writing a lot about teams, players, and schedules! I’d be reading Dave Campbells Texas Football and the San Antonio Express High School Football Preview! I’d be talking to anybody who would listen about my life outside of my full-time job!
But, I am not super excited anymore and haven’t really been since the birth of my son, Niko, in May of 2016. Since then, I have contemplated stepping away from being a freelance sports writer and photographer and this year, I won’t be on the sidelines or the press-box. I will be at home with my family. High school football will always have a place in my heart and I am thankful to everybody I have worked with and met throughout my 20 plus years.
Don’t worry, I am not completely giving up on The Statman Speaks; I have some book ideas in mind and will work on those.
