It is going to be hard on all 3 of us when High School football starts on August 25th because I will be out all day on Thursday’s (I won’t be home until 11pm — and I start at 6:30am). I am still undecided on what I will do on Friday’s during the High School football season.
As much as I would’ve loved to take a dip in the pools or practice my dives on the diving boards, I did what I do best and that was to take photographs of the gymnasium.
This wasn’t my first time in a construction zone for a High School stadium. In 2013 and 2014, I photographed the renovation of Alamo stadium and in 2015, I photographed the renovation of Lehnhoff stadium. It was really cool to see the transformation of these stadiums from start to finish. The Alamo stadium photos were featured on TV, a book, and several websites. Even I got interviewed by a TV station about them.
I have been in contact with Stan Laing, the Northside ISD Athletic Director, about getting inside access (I got that with Alamo stadium and the Alamo Convocation Center) and it didn’t happen because they are doing a lot of work inside. Hopefully, I can get inside next time.
I did find a new vantage point (in between the football stadium and the natatoriums) and was able to get some great shots of the football field and press-box with the gymnasium in the background. With my camera, I can zoon in pretty close.
Just like Alamo and Lehnhoff, I always get excited when I see the progress and really enjoy walking around the premises with a gigantic grin on my face and I love sharing my passion with you.
Last year (while I was working games at Farris stadium), I snapped some photos of the site being prepared.
