Even though UTSA won in a blowout, I still can’t believe they are only in there 2nd year of football. They were extremely efficient on offense They put up 56 points and ran 54 plays for 419 yards!!! Wow!!! Three quarterbacks played for UTSA…combined, they were 15 for 17 passing for 203 yards and 1 touchdown. Ten receivers caught passes; funny thing is I actually ran out of room on my stat board!!! But, don’t worry, I made room for them!! Nine running backs carried the ball. Just absolutely fucking impressive!!!
The UTSA defense overwhelmed the Rangers all game long. NW Oklahoma State ran 55 plays for 169 yards! UTSA also returned an interception for a touchdown. Wow!!!
Normally, blowout games can be very boring, but this game was fun cause a lot of players played and quite a few of them have San Antonio high school football roots! And, since I have been a high school football statistician for 16 years, it was an awesome feeling for me when I wrote there particular names on my stat board. I only keep track of offensive stats and I want to mention those offensive players who got on my stat board from the San Antonio area. Please take a look at the UTSA roster cause there are bunch more on defense that I am not going to be able to mention.
David Glasco III – Wagner High School (Running Back)
5 carries for 70 yards and 2 touchdowns
John Simmons – New Braunfels High School (Quarterback)
3 for 3 passing for 23 yards and 4 carries for 27 yards
Aaron Grubb – La Vernia High School (Wide Receiver)
1 catch for 9 yards
Seth Grubb – La Vernia High School (Wide Receiver)
1 catch for 0 yards
Kenny Bias – Stevens High School (Wide Receiver)
2 catches for 16 yards
Cole Hubble – Bandera High School (Wide Receiver)
2 catches for 62 yards and 1 touchdown
Earon Holmes – Brackenridge High School (Wide Receiver)
1 catch for 25 yards
One of the coolest things at the UTSA Football games is the fact that they provide a live private website for up to the minute stats and it includes all stats!!! For a one man crew, I am always fairly damn close to the official stats. For our next game, I think I may just keep track of drives and how long each play was since Jorge and David (the two Spanish broadcasters) use the live stats at the end of each quarter; they also get a hard copy from the UTSA Athletic staff. Pretty cool.
I don’t have to buy food at the concession stands which is always super pricey cause FREE food is provided in the press-box!!!
Next Thursday, I will be at Gustafson stadium for another District 27-5A game between the Brandeis Broncos and the Stevens Falcons.
Not sure where I am at on Friday and Saturday. Judson plays at Corpus Christi Carroll on Friday and I am unable to travel to that particular game. As soon as I know, I will update my high school football schedule page.
