Man, I am so glad that there is food at the games and I don’t have to pay for it. It is a very nice perk of being part of the media!!! Dude, guess who I had lunch with? No, it wasn’t her!!! It was the public address announcer for the Judson and Wagner high school football games…Milton…gosh, I don’t have a clue on his last name. We chit-chatted about the Judson game from Friday night that I didn’t work cause again I had to put in overtime hours at the bank. Judson was losing basically the whole game and somehow pulled out a victory and there were also brutal technical difficulties for the radio broadcast. Talk about Judson football…I think I saw the assistant AD for Judson in the stands in front of us. And, a former Judson player who now plays for UTSA tipped a pass and one of his teammates caught it for an interception.
The Alamodome is a great place to escape from the heat (like the first UTSA game I worked this season) and the cold which is how the temperature was on Saturday!!! The Dome folks even indicated the inside temperature on the huge video monitors…I wanted to get a picture of it, but my reaction time was too slow.
Even though I didn’t keep track of the offensive stats, I am getting more and more familiar with the offensive players for UTSA and it so cool that the majority of the them are from San Antonio. I did the same thing as last week as I only kept track of drive summary and how long a play is. I know Jorge and David use the information I provide them, but since I don’t speak Spanish I am never quite sure when I can erase the numbers!!! I may have to invest in Rosetta Stone!!!
Right next to our booth is the replay booth and there were a few calls on the field that had to be reviewed. Jorge, David, and I had our faces plastered against the window watching there monitors in slow motion!!! That was pretty cool!!!
My mom and dad came to the game along with there best friends. They had awesome seats…thank you Kevin!!! During halftime, I ran over to say hi and my mom had no clue what the score was!!
UTSA lost on Saturday to Utah State by a score of 48-17…gosh, after 5 consecutive wins to start the season and now 3 consecutive big loss blowouts, this season for UTSA has definitely had its share of ups and downs. Working a game when your team is losing is not fun and you really gotta stay focused. I was really glad UTSA scored some touchdowns in the 4th quarter to make the score a bit more respectable.
Let’s just hope they can get back on the winning track next week at Louisiana Tech.
