I even planned accordingly at work and took the day off since I knew it was gonna be a far drive. I had a few doctors appointments scheduled yesterday and rather than going home after they were finished, I decided to chill at my parents house…the drive to Boerne from there house is much much easier than driving from my house; they live near IH-10 and Wurzbach and I live near Judson and Nacogdoches at Loop 1604.
As I was leaving my parents house, I dropped my Tab and the case cracked…yes, I am serious. Usually, it is my wife who drops her Iphone or Ipad, but last night it was me and I was annoyed…it still works which is the good thing. I do have a case for it and will have to start using it again…I stopped using the case cause I have a mount in my car for the Tab and it doesn’t fit with the case. Now, the question is, can I deal with cracked screen until February cause that is when the contract is up? Or, should I finally get rid of my flip phone and get a smartphone now? Questions to ponder!!!!
I gotta give kudos to my GPS with a cracked screen…she got me to the stadium and home from the stadium with no wrong turns!!! Yay!!! But, she had couldn’t understand the word Boerne, she kept hearing it as Bernie as in Weekend at Bernies!!! So, to help her out, I said 78006 in place of Boerne and she got it perfectly!!!
Canyon Lake High school is a relatively new high school in the Comal ISD school district…they have only been playing varsity football since 2007.
Boerne High School has been playing football for a long time, but in 2008, the school shut down for renovations and all the 10th, 11th, and 12th grade students attended the newly built Boerne Champion High school. Boerne High school reopened in 2009.
Both of these teams play in District 27-3A and only 3 teams will make the playoffs. There are 3 teams tied for 2nd place with identical district records of 2 wins and 1 loss…Boerne and Canyon Lake are two of those teams. I have a feeling that the loser of this game will have to start thinking about next year! I knew from the get-go that this was gonna a battle till the end and a really close game.
At halftime, Boerne led 21 to 16. Finally, we have a close game…yay!!! Unfortunately, when the game ended, it was a blowout…Boerne won 43 to 16.
Canyon Lake’s starting running back, Eduardo Covarrubias had 10 carries for 100 yards in the first quarter…he left the game with a hip or rib injury and didn’t return. The Hawks controlled the tempo in the first half with a very nice running game. I think if Covarrubias had not gotten hurt, the outcome of this game would’ve been different. His back-up was Hayden DuBois, a Sophomore. Dubois had 26 carries for 116 yards and 1 touchdown.
The Greyhounds have a Sophomore starting quarterback, Quinten Dormady, who just happens to be the coaches son!!! Quinten was 21 for 33 passing for 266 yards with 3 touchdowns and 1 interception. Man, he plays like a veteran!!! Paul Burns led the receiving core with 8 catches for 121 yards and 2 touchdowns. He also had 1 touchdown running the ball.
Week 10 in this district is gonna be unbelievable. Boerne plays at Wimberly and Canyon Lake hosts Navarro next week. One of those teams isn’t going to make the playoffs and I can bet it won’t be the Wimberly Texans cause they are the defending state champions in 3A!!!! Wow!!!
FINAL SCORE
Canyon Lake 16 (3-6, 2-2)
Boerne 43 (6-3, 3-1)
Man, what am I to do on Thursday nights now that the tv season is finished? I know my wife will be happy to have me home and I will be happy to be with my wife. I know…I can finally watch the final season of Weeds…don’t tell me what happens or I will have to spank you.
Even though, we had a lot of blowout games, we got to see 3 teams that could very easily end the season undefeated…the Pleasanton Eagles (that game was called in the 3rd due to be bad weather), the Brennan Bears, and the Steele Knights. One of these teams and I won’t say which one has a great shot of playing on December 22nd in Cowboys stadium for a state championship. Wow!!!!!
It was great to work alongside Ernie Zuniga, Wane McGarity, and Ralph Lopez. Thank you David Ostmo…he was the one who hired me and he is also the executive producer of the all the games. Well, thanks TV and I will be back next year.
Tonight, I will be at New Braunfels Canyon stadium for the Canyon Cougars and the Judson Rockets. Tomorrow night, I will be at Farris stadium for the Stevens Falcons and the O’Connor Panthers.
