The last time I was at Canyon stadium was 4 years ago for a TNL TV game against there crosstown rival…the New Braunfels Unicorns….not only was it a tv game, but the press-box was just renovated and they showed it off. The game itself was a HUGE BLOWOUT in favor of the Unicorns…69-2!!! I think that has gotta be the largest victory I have ever seen in a High School football game. WOW!!!
Oh my god, last night in the press-box, they were serving fried chicken, brownies, and they even have a self serve ice cream machine!!!! I was in food heaven!!!
Even though the Cougars are winless in District 25-5A and are on the outside of the playoff picture, they have averaged 23 points a game. I am not expecting them to just lay down and let Judson have a field trip all over the red field.
I didn’t work the Judson game last week, but from I read and heard about that game, they didn’t play Judson football until the 4th quarter and somehow managed to pull off a victory. So, I was curious as to which Judson team would show up for last nights game?
Well folks, of all the games I have worked this season, the game last night was the most exciting as it came down to the last posession of the game…WOW!!! Combined, the teams scored 76 points, had 923 total yards of offense on 125 plays, and 5 players had over 100 yards of individual offense. Oh, and there were several amazing touchdown receptions from both teams.
The quarterback for the New Braunfels Canyon Cougars, Philip Shelton, had 22 carries for 167 yards and 1 touchdown. He also passed for 213 yards and 2 touchdowns. The main target for Shelton was Eric Perez who had 7 receptions for 120 yards and 3 touchdowns. I was really impressed with Shelton and he is only a Junior, so we get to see him for one more year…WOW!!! Fourteen players for the Cougars touched the ball.
Rayjohn Austin-Ramsey started at quarterback for the Judson Rockets and he was 8 of 15 passing for 208 yards and 3 touchdowns. Man, those 3 touchdowns were from 49 yards, 43 yards, and 52 yards…the throws from Ramsey to the receiver were right on cue. Jarveon Williams, the running back, had 16 carries for 114 yards and 2 touchdowns.
The Cougars never quit playing and had an opportunity at the end of the game to tie, but Judson intercepted the final pass and won the game…oh, the Judson win also marks the Judson Rockets 36th consecutive winning season, which ties a state record…that is absolutely unbelievable and I am so glad that I have been apart of it for the past several years. The victory also allowed Judson to clinch a playoff berth!!! Sweet!!!
FINAL SCORE
Converse Judson 42 (6-3, 3-1)
New Braunfels Canyon 34 (2-7, 0-4)
Tonight, I will be at Farris stadium for the Stevens Falcons and the O’Connor Panthers.
