I couldn’t have asked the “football gods” for a better day.
For starters, it was my 3 year wedding anniversary. I did see my wife for like 15 minutes in the morning before I left for work and I gave her a hug and a kiss and when I got home at 11:00pm, she was awake. So, yeah, we spent 75 minutes together yesterday!!! She totally understands that football occupies my life for 4 months!!!
At work, it was employee appreciation week and I got recognized for my “Labor of Love” as they highlighted my KSAT 12 story about my Alamo stadium renovation photos. That notification went out to the San Antonio market which is a bunch of people. All day long, I was getting congratulatory emails and instant messages from my co-workers. Yeah, it was very nice and much appreciative. Thank you Chase Bank!!! I gotta also thank my co-worker Manny for submitting it even though it was me who contacted my boss’s boss to tell her what I did!!! Yep, I am all about self promotion!!!
So at the game last night, some of my Alamo stadium renovations photos were featured on TV and that was great and FREE publicity for me and my blog. The reason they were featured is since Alamo stadium is under renovation, the SAISD schools are using the other SAISD stadiums, Spring Sports and Wheatley Heights. Yesterday, I got an email from the SAISD athletic secretary/webmaster and she took some pictures last week and I will share those photos tomorrow.
Enough about me…it is now time to talk about a District 28-4A match-up between the Lanier Voks and the Jefferson Mustangs. Coming into the game, the combined record was 1 win and 10 losses. I knew we were gonna have a close game and the final result was the Lanier Voks 20 and the Jefferson Mustangs 14!!!
The Jefferson Mustangs ran 43 plays for 290 yards. Weston Redding, the Junior quarterback, was 10 for 18 passing for 196 yards with 2 touchdowns and 1 interception. Phillip Hudspeth, a Sophomore wide receiver, had 3 receptions for 53 yards and touchdown. D’Andre Melton, another wide receiver, had 2 receptions for 84 yards and 1 touchdown (that touchdown was for 69 yards).
The Lanier Voks ran 68 plays for 373 yards. They scored 3 touchdowns and each of those drives was very impressive: one was 15 plays, 88 yards, and 6:18 time of possession, another was 18 plays, 96 yards, and 7:29 time of possession, and that last was 7 plays, 81 yards, and 3:08 time of possession. They also had a 12 play, 56 yard drive with 6:11 time of possession but they failed to get any points. Man, combined, 52 plays for 321 yards with 23:06 time of possession! All I can say is WOW!!! I really like that type of football!!!
The last time I saw a team dominate like that was the Clark Cougars several years ago when they had Hayden Greenbauer at quarterback and Jock Tilghman at running back! Oh, we get Clark next Thursday!!! Hmmm…where are they know? That would be an interesting BLOG article for me to write and research.
Lanier quarterback Nicholas Garcia was 11 for 21 passing with 202 yards and 1 touchdown. Rodrigo Garcia, a wide receiver, had 3 receptions for 81 yards. Another wide receiver, Stephen Horton, had 2 receptions for 43 yards and 1 touchdown. Running back, Joe Orta, had 3 receptions for 42 yards. Orta also had 23 carries for 110 yards and 1 touchdown. Stephen Veliz, another running back, had 12 carries for 37 yards and 1 touchdown.
Tonight, I will be at D W Rutledge stadium for the Hammer Bowl as the Judson Rockets host the Wagner Thunderbirds. You can throw out the records for both teams because this game is for bragging rights!! I expect a full house so arrive early!!!
And, on Saturday, I am taking the day off to celebrate our 3 year Wedding Anniversary. It was actually on Thursday (10/10/2013) but I didn’t want to miss a TNL game and there is no way I am missing the Hammer Bowl on Friday.
