For the 2nd year in a row, the San Antonio Spurs played the Miami Heat in the NBA Finals. Last year, the Spurs lost in 7 games and I won’t talk about Games 6 and 7!!! This year, the Spurs got total revenge and beat the Heat in 5 games!!!
HOLY SHIT!!! The SPURS ARE THE 2014 NBA CHAMPIONS!! Let’s all take a drink (don’t matter what it is) and sing in unison, “WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS!”
Game 1
San Antonio Spurs 110
Miami Heat 95
Stat of the NIGHT…The Spurs scored 36 points in the 4th quarter and were 14 of 16 from the field…almost perfect. WOW!
The BIG 3 of Tim, Tony, and Manu scored 56 points but dude, it was great to see the role players (Kawhi, Danny, Patty, and Marco) of the Spurs hit some buckets in the 4th quarter…that will be a huge confidence builder for Game 2.
I saw a bunch of complaints on Twitter and Facebook about the a/c not working in the AT&T Center and that really must’ve sucked for everybody!! Fans fanning themselves, players wearing ice bags on there bodies, and cramps for 1 particular player (Lebron James) are not images that I and the rest of the world expected to see in an NBA Finals game.
Man, I felt so bad for Lebron James and I was probably the only person in the state of Texas with that opinion. I mean, this is the NBA Finals and you want to see the best players on the court in crunch time not on the bench, but I guess his pain was so severe…he had to be carried of the court to the Heat bench. I have never had cramps, but my wife tells me it is extremely painful and if she says so, I have to agree!!!
Oh, one final thought about the game or should I say the announcers of Mark Jackson, Jeff Van Gundy, Mike Breen, and Doris Burke. I watched the game but had the volume very low and from what I could hear, it was mostly about the a/c not working or good call vs bad call (they have replay available).
I want to start a petition to get our San Antonio announcers of Bill Land and Sean Elliott to call the games!!! BTW, the how heck does one start a petition? Do I need to go to City Hall?
Game 2
San Antonio Spurs 96
Miami Heat 98
Stat of the NIGHT…LeBron James scored 35 points on 14 of 22 from the field (and that included a perfect 3 of 3 from downtown) and grabbed 10 rebounds!!! And, that was a cramp-less James!!
Despite the GREATNESS OF LEBRON JAMES and the fact that LeBron can single handily win a game on his own, the Spurs were right there all night long (sweet, a Lionel Richie reference). Dude, the Spurs even had an 11 point lead but no lead is safe in the NBA Finals.
I am a fan of James…his skills are amazing and he is so freaking strong. Is he the best player in the NBA? Gosh, I would say yes but Kevin Durant is a very close 2nd!! Is James the best player ever in the NBA? Man, I would say no and from what I have seen of the NBA, I gotta go with Michael Jordan, Larry Bird, and Magic Johnson.
The Miami Heat have two players who played High School Basketball in the state of Texas…Chris Bosh went to Dallas Lincoln and Rashard Lewis went to Houston Alief Elsik. They combined for 32 points and 4 three pointers. Personally, I would rather them and James hit 3’s than Ray Allen (who is by far the best shooter in the NBA)!
I thought that since Danny, Patty, Marco, and Kawhi got some shots to fall late in Game 1 that that would carry over to Game 2…boy, I was wrong!!! Kawhi looked bamboozled!! Tim, Tony, and Manu scored 58 points.
I bet a lot of Spurs fans were thinking SWEEP!!! No way Jose…these are the final 2 teams standing and I am expecting each game to be very close.
Game 3
San Antonio Spurs 111
Miami Heat 92
Well, I was wrong…I thought it would be a close game. I totally didn’t expect Spur-domination!!! WOW!!! But, this has happened before for the Spurs in the 2014 NBA Playoffs so maybe I need to study more!!!
Stat of the NIGHT…The Spurs scored 71 points and shot an NBA Finals record of 75.8% in the first half. An absolutely amazing performance!!
Whatever Kawhi Leonard and Danny Green ate for there pre-game meal, let’s make sure they get the same thing for each of the remaining games. Kawhi and Danny were extremely aggressive to start the game on both ends of the court and were on fire from the field. Man, they couldn’t miss…everything was a swish!!! And, dude, that hot shooting rubbed off on the rest of team. Even I was making baskets but mine were trash and laundry.
I don’t know about you, but because of the white net and white shirts of the Heat fans, I had a hard time seeing the ball go thru the basket. Yes, I was even wearing my glasses.
Kawhi scored 29 points on 10 of 13 from the field and Danny scored 15 points on 7 of 8 from the field. Tim, Tony, and Manu shot well from the field but there performances weren’t dominating and that is bad news for the Heat!!! Cause if any of the Big 3 have a huge numbers and Danny and Kawhi continue there hot shooting, the Spurs can’t be beat!!
At Halftime, the Spurs led 71 to 50 and I was very nervous the entire 2nd half because I knew that the Miami Heat would go on a run. When you have LeBron James, Dywane Wade, and Chris Bosh and three point shooters in Rashard Lewis and Ray Allen, coming from behind isn’t out of the possibility. Luckily, the closest they came in the 2nd half was 7 points and that was too much!!
Can you imagine if the Spurs had lost the game? I don’t think they could’ve recovered physically, mentally, and emotionally. It would’ve been devastating.
I know that for Game 4, the Miami Heat are going to play like it’s an elimination game and the Spurs better be ready for a battle!!
Game 4
San Antonio Spurs 107
Miami Heat 86
Stat of the NIGHT…Tim Duncan is now the leader in most Playoff minutes played and most Playoff double-doubles!!! WOW!!! Tim Duncan is easily and without a doubt, “THE GREATEST POWER FORWARD OF ALL TIME!”
Well, I was wrong again!! I really thought this game would be close and the team with the ball last would win.
Man, what is wrong with the Miami Heat? Oh, I know…they are playing the Spurs who a much better team from number 1 to number 12!! The Heat looked like a deer in my headlights in Canyon Lake…dazed and confused (a good movie reference).
I wasn’t as nervous as I was in Game 3 in the 2nd half, cause I think the Spurs learned there lesson from Game 3. Yeah, I was a bit concerned when LeBron scored 19 points in the 3rd quarter but fortunately, he slowed down in the 4th.
Kawhi Leonard scored 20 points and grabbed 14 rebounds with 3 assists, 3 blocked shots, and 3 steals. Soon, I bethca Kawhi will have a triple-double or maybe a quintuple-double very soon! And, he is only 22 years old he is only going to get better. WOW!!!
Tim Duncan scored 10 points and grabbed 11 rebounds. Manu struggled with just 7 points and Tony had a very nice game with 19 points.
I am officially on the Boris Diaw bandwagon and love how he plays the game. Boris had 8 points, 9 rebounds, and 9 assists. WOW!!! If we ever have a boy (child or an animal), I am going to fight really hard to name him Boris or Diaw!!
I know the Spurs are a very good road team, but, I for one, wasn’t expecting the Spurs to win both games 3 and 4 in Miami. I expected the series to be tied at 2 games.
The Spurs can win the 2014 NBA Finals on there home court and that will happen folks. Will the game be a blow-out or a close game? I don’t really care. I just don’t want to give Miami any chance of winning and bringing the Spurs back to South Beach.
Game 5
San Antonio Spurs 104
Miami Heat 87
Stat of the NIGHT…The San Antonio Spurs won there 5th NBA Championship!!! WOW!!!
Were you worried when Miami jumped out to a 22 to 6 lead? I was concerned cause the Spurs couldn’t make a bucket and Miami wanted it more. But, the Spurs chipped away slowly and I had a feeling that as soon as the Spurs grabbed the lead, the game was over.
Man, I got goose-bumps when the final buzzer sounded and when Peter Holt hoisted the 2014 NBA Championship trophy!!!!! WOW!!!
The Game 5 hero for the Spurs has gotta be Patty Mills. Mills had 17 points and was 5 of 8 from three point lead. The Big 3 of Tim, Tony, and Manu scored 49 points and each took over the game at
different times and we needed that from them.
Dude, Kawhi scored 22 points and was the Finals MVP!! Extremely impressive performance!!! He is growing up folks!!
The Spurs first off-season move must be to re-sign Patty Mills and Boris Diaw!! The big question for all Spurs fans is will Tim be back or will he retire? Man, I don’t know and if I did, I would the most popular Spurs BLOGGER.
I can’t believe the Spurs won the 4 games by a total margin of 72 points and lost Game 2 by 2 points!!! Can you say Spurs-domination? Unbelievable!!!
Last year, after the NBA Finals loss to the Heat, I said, “I really think this was the most difficult team the Spurs have faced in the NBA Finals. Nothing against the NY Knicks, the NJ Nets, the Detroit Pistons, or the Cleveland Cavaliers team.” And, the same thing again this year!!! Miami is a tough opponent and you gotta recognize all they have accomplished.
I think this was LeBron and Chris Bosh’s final game in a Heat uniform. Wade is a Heat lifer. I heard the TV announcers say this was indeed Shane Battier’s last NBA game. I have always been a fan of Battier…smart basketball IQ; he will make a really good TV broadcaster. Another Heat player may also decide to call it quits and that is Ray Allen. I like Ray Allen except when he plays against us. I would love to see a game of horse between Larry Bird in his prime and Ray Allen.
I still can’t believe that the Spurs played a Game 7 in the first round of the 2014 NBA Playoffs against the Dallas Mavericks. What if Dallas had beaten us? Could Dallas have beaten Portland? Probably not. Could Portland have beaten Oklahoma City? Not likely. Could Oklahoma City have dethroned the Miami Heat? I don’t know!!
I stayed up pretty late watching the post game press conferences and the celebration!!!! And, I didn’t call in sick like I am sure a lot of San Antonian’s did (yeah, I was tired but I survived)!
I am proud to call San Antonio my home town and my favorite basketball team. They are a class act franchise!!
I appreciated all the Facebook and Twitter updates on all the Spurs Playoff games. It was fun to read em all and either like it or re-tweet it.
THANK YOU TO THE SAN ANTONIO SPURS. I LOVE YOU ALL AND LETS REPEAT IN 2015!!!
Now that the NBA season is almost over (we have the Spurs Championship celebration on Wednesday and the NBA draft next week), I can focus my entire brain on house-shopping, car shopping (my car is involved in yet another GM recall…that makes 2 this year and I am very close to the point of no return; a really good movie), and HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL.
