The Brackenridge Eagles (who I saw play on Thursday night) have a quarterback/receiver combination who coming into the Thursday game were both 2nd in their respective categories. The quarterback is Antonio Lopez and the receiver is Lee Terrell.
The Antonian Apaches (who I saw play last night) running back, Daniel Rosenfeld, had 1,095 rushing yards with 14 touchdowns before last nights game.
And, tonight, I got Stevens and Taft. Stevens quarterback, Bobby Chacon and Taft running back, Christian Mallard. Chacon has 1,700 passing yards with 17 touchdowns and 7 interceptions and Mallard has 1,102 rushing yards with 11 touchdowns.
So, yeah, I was excited to see some great players and was definitely expecting all of them to put up huge numbers!!!
On Thursday night, I was at Alamo stadium as the Brackenridge Eagles defeated the McCollum Cowboys 44 to 28. I really thought this game would be a blow-out in favor of the Eagles (sorry Cowboy fans…oh, wait, this is not an NFL game). McCollum played hard and even had the lead at 1 point, but the Eagles were more athletic and fast and as I have said before, SPEED KILLS!!!
The McCollum Cowboys ran 63 plays for 334 yards. Mike Ramirez, the running back, had 19 carries for 39 yards and 5 receptions for 210 yards and 2 touchdowns (one for 60 yards and the other for 75 yards). I was extremely impressed with Ramirez and the cool thing is, he is only a junior!! WOW!!
The Brackenridge Eagles ran 59 plays for 504 yards. Antonio Lopez, the quarterback, was 16 of 27 passing for 299 yards with 1 touchdown and 1 interception. Receiver, Lee Terrell, had 6 receptions for 174 yards. Terrell is now number 1 and Lopez is still number 2 (about 300 yards behind Kyle Fuller, the Lee quarterback). Trey Mathis, the Eagles running back, had 16 carries for 140 yards with 2 touchdowns. Maco Marble, another running back, had 12 carries for 75 yards with 2 touchdowns. Yes, their was an “Uh-Oh, Better get Maaco” reference during the game.
On Friday night, I was at Antonian as the Antonian Apaches defeated their rival the Central Catholic Buttons by a score of 49 to 21. This was my first time at Antonian for a football game and dude, I was really excited to be there and also to finally see a healthy Daniel Rosenfeld. The Apaches only loss this season was to the Boerne Greyhounds and Rosenfeld was hurt and only played the first series.
It was a FULL HOUSE (gosh, I did it again…another reference to that TV show) and our color analyst, Tony Franklin, mentioned that the overall atmosphere felt like we were in a small town and the entire community was at the game and I couldn’t agree more!! It was awesome!! Their was no room in the tiny press-box for us (since their was a TV crew broadcasting the game), so we ended up on top of the press-box (you had to climb a submarine ladder) to get on top. It was actually not as bad I was thinking..we had room to maneuver and I had a blast watching the game and dancing to the band sounds. Just a little bit of twerking for me!! Along with us, their were several cameras and the Central Catholic coaches.
Even though I had room for my stat board on the chain linked fence that protected us from falling overboard, I made an executive stat decision and decided to only use my little dry erase board to keep track of drive summaries. It was kinda nice that I was able to watch the game more as a fan and didn’t have to worry about stats.
At halftime, I did get some stats from David Hinojosa who was representing the San Antonio Express News. In the 2nd half, I had to keep track of Daniel Rosenfeld…dude had 21 carries for 199 yards in the first half with 3 touchdowns. When the game ended, Rosenfeld had 37 carries for 368 yards with 6 touchdowns. WOW!!! I guarantee he will be the player of the week this week!!! Man, Rosenfeld is a junior!!! WOW AGAIN!! He is now number 1 folks!!
Tonight, I will be at Gustafson stadium as the Stevens Falcons play the Taft Raiders. I really hope Bobby Chacon from Stevens and Christian Mallard from Taft put up HUGE numbers.
Next Thursday, I will be at Gustafson stadium again as the Marshall Rams play the Holmes Huskies.
On Friday, I will easily have the best game (Steele and Judson is a very close 2nd) as the Brandeis Broncos play the O’Connor Panthers.
