I always write BLOG’s after I work each game but since I have time, I decided to write a PREVIEW blog for one of the Saturday games.
Reagan VS Smithson Valley
I saw Reagan in Week 1 and they lost to the O’Connor Panthers. Since that loss, they have won 9 games in a row!!! Please, I will do the math for their overall record….9 wins and 1 loss.
The Reagan Rattlers are led by sophomore quarterback, Kellon Mond. Mond is 99 for 158 passing for 1,296 yards with 15 touchdowns and 0 interceptions. He also leads the team with 879 rushing yards and 13 touchdowns. Skyler Wetzel, the coach’s son, has 666 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns. The leading receiver is Luke Mitchum, who had 32 receptions for 508 yards and 6 touchdowns.
In that Reagan game I worked, Wetzel didn’t play and Mond and Cade Bormet split time at quarterback. I am looking forward to seeing Wetzel at running back and Mond play an entire game at quarterback.
I worked two Smithson Valley games and both were losses, but those losses came from the top two teams in San Antonio (Brennan and Steele). If Brennan and Steele win this week, they will play each other in the 2nd round!!! Smithson Valley’s record is 6 wins and 4 losses. The other losses came to the Judson Rockets and Midland. It is kinda strange having a Ranger team with 4 losses…usually, they are one of top teams in the area.
The Rangers are also led by a sophomore quarterback, Josh Adkins. Adkins is 104 of 179 passing for 1,437 yards with 14 touchdowns and 5 interceptions. On the ground, Adkins has 9 touchdowns. Cord Given has 629 rushing yards and 5 touchdowns. Derek Housler has 30 receptions for 630 yards and 7 touchdowns.
Looking at the stats from above, both are actually kinda evenly matched. They are also extremely well coached and will be prepared for a 48 minute battle. I am expecting a very close game and I am going to give the edge to Reagan. But, I wouldn’t be shocked if the Rangers won.
