Well, I know Mike Considine form Sportsonsouthside.com and I really wanted to hang out with him during football season and watch him work. But, unfortunately, that didn’t pan out. After football season ended, we chatted on Twitter about his January schedule of basketball games.
Mike covers these schools: Brackenridge, Brooks Academy, Burbank, Central Catholic, East Central, Edison, Fox Tech, Harlandale, Highlands, Holy Cross, Jefferson, Kennedy, Lanier, McCollum, Memorial, Providence, Sam Houston, South San, Southside, Southwest and Young Women’s Leadership Academy. On January 14th, he told me would be covering East Central at South San on January 30th (two of his top 3 teams) and I was like, I will be there!!!! I was looking forward to the game and taking photographs.
Now, I have been to South San stadium several times for football games but this was my first time at the gymnasium and dude, when I stepped inside, I was extremely impressed and the atmosphere and ambiance definitely wowed me. Banners of accomplishments were all over the gymnasium (that is always really cool to see). I have only been in a few High School basketball gym’s (St. Anthony, Antonian, TMI, and the recently renovated Alamo Convocation Center) but this one has gotta be one of the best ones so far. I can’t count the Convocation Center at Incarnate Word because that is a college gymnasium!
Normally, this is where I would talk about the game and provide a lot of stats. So, I will tell you that South San defeated East Central by a score of 67 to 59. South San’s record is 20 wins and 6 losses and they have 3 wins and 2 losses in District 28-6A. East Central’s record is 15 wins and 11 losses and they also have 3 wins and 2 losses in District 28-6A. I was really impressed with Curtis Allen, a junior from South San. He scored 28 points last night. That is all I got folks!!!
My job last night was to watch Mike work and take a bunch of photographs. I will share a few of the photographs at the end of this BLOG and will publish all the photographs on my Facebook which can be viewed at: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.783143975112106.1073741846.549116061848233&&uploaded=280
Mike does it all folks and is a real professional…from keeping his own stats to sending Tweets for the game last night as well as other teams he covers. After the game concluded, he talked to both head coaches and even a South San player…writing down key phrases in his spiral notebook.
Mike has a lot of experience as a sports writer and he has passion for what he does. I really appreciated him letting me into his domain as I had a wonderful time. I am planning on hanging out again with him on February 13th.
