Coming into the game, the Yellow Jackets were 19 and 10 and 3 and 2 in TAPPS District 2-5A and the Buttons were undefeated in TAPPS District 2-5A and had a 20 game winning streak and were also ranked Number 5 by the San Antonio Express News.
St. Anthony lost by 3 points when these teams played on January 29th and I was totally expecting another close game but this time with St. Anthony winning!!
Dude, I couldn’t have asked for a better venue to host the last District game of the season. The gymnasium was loud and extremely energetic and I as walked around, I kept thinking out-loud that I was in the gym during the renovations and now, holy crap; a basketball game is being played!!! WOW!!!
Before the game started, I spoke briefly with Coach Smisek and he mentioned “that the game didn’t really matter as both teams are playoff bound and win or lose, the Yellow Jackets will play hard…but a win would be great though!!”
Coach Smisek introduced me to Carlos Enrico, the Athletic Director for Central Catholic and former head football coach. The reason being is Carlos’s wife was my 5th grade teacher at Shenandoah Elementary school a long long long time ago and I adored her!! I didn’t realize that until a few years ago but never had the chance to meet Carlos. And, when I met him at the ball game, he immediately called his wife and I got the opportunity to speak to her…WOW…and yesterday, I got an email from her…WOW!!!
Well, the game was indeed very close and back and forth all night. It was kinda looking like the team who had the ball last would win the game.
At Halftime, St. Anthony led Central Catholic by a score of 34 to 33. After 3, it was 53 to 47 Central Catholic. And, when the final buzzer sounded, the score was 71 to 68 as the…

Thanks for the RETWEETS AND FAVORITES. I really appreciate it.
Ricardo Valadez and Jax Chavez had 3 points, Stephen Wallace had 5 points, Brandon Armstrong and Johnatan Reyes each had 14 points, and Isiah Saenz and Darren Meeks each scored 16 points. I gotta give the PLAYER OF THE GAME TO ISIAH SAENZ AND DARREN MEEKS as both made several huge clutch 3 pointers. All the Yellow Jackets played very well and I always come away impressed with the team and I know I have said this before, but it all starts with Coach Smisek and his coaching staff.
Tony Lewis, the 6’9 junior from Central Catholic led all scorers with 21 points. He is really tall…we were walking out of the bathroom together and I told him to watch his head (I’m sure I wasn’t the first to tell him)!!
The St. Anthony Yellow Jackets will play Corpus Christi John Paul II tomorrow at 9am at the Alamo Convocation Center. Even though, I won’t be attending, I will be definitely cheering for them to win and have a long playoff run!!!
STING EM JACKETS…YEAH, I AM NOT BIASED AT ALL!!!!!!
Coming up on Monday, February 24th will be the first part of me and my wife’s JOINTLY WRITTEN real estate blog which you don’t want to miss.
