I won’t be back at the Dome until next year…Jan 4th for the San Antonio High School All-Star football game which will be on CW35!!! Before that game is the US Army All American Bowl and I will be at that game as a fan. Yep, no more High School football games this year at the Dome…USAA has there annual holiday party this year at the Dome.
I had a very special guest with me and that was very nice…it was my wife. She helped me hang and take down our banners, she took some pics of me (she likes me), and during the game she read a book and knitted. But, every time I glanced her was as I was doing the stats, I had a smile on face. I am so damn lucky that I got a great woman in my life.
And, afterwards, we got some food at Lulu’s Bakery and Cafe. I kept telling her about the chicken fried steak and cinnamon buns. Well, the chicken fried steak wasn’t as good as I remember and the cinnamon bun was large, sweet, and very good.
Enough about food…let me talk high school football because that is what my BLOG is about.
Last year, Madison and O’Connor played in the state quarterfinals (also at the Dome) and the O’Connor Panthers won 52 to 49. I was expecting a similar score and outcome.
Well folks, at halftime, Madison led 16 to 7. Madison had 222 yards of offense and O’Connor had 217 yards of offense. Definitely was not what I expected from these teams. But, still it was a great nail biting first half.
In the 3rd quarter, Madison led 22 to 14 and the Madison BAND was penalized for playing too loud when O’Connor had the ball (come on refs, let the band play). Yeah, I am serious…15 yard unsportsmanlike penalty!!! Unbelievable!!! A few players later, O’Connor scored and trailed Madison 22 to 20. That penalty sparked FIRE in Madison because they scored the next 27 points and defeated O’Connor by a final score of 49 to 20. WOW!!!
Not only was this a TSRN game, but it was also being broadcasted on Time Warner cable on demand by Larry Pullin, the former Jay basketball coach and Jason Minnix, a San Antonio sports talk radio personality. I know Jason and being the nice person I am, I told him if they needed any stats, they can use mine!!! All Jason wanted was scoring drives and I was easily able to get that for him throughout the game.
The O’Connor Panthers ran 55 plays for 444 yards. Quarterback Zach Galindo, was 26 of 37 passing for 314 yards with 2 touchdowns and 1 interception. Billy Craft had 9 receptions for 113 yards and Nate Phillips had 4 receptions for 78 yards and 2 touchdowns.
Zach, Nate, and Billy have been on the Varsity football team since they were sophomore’s and I have worked a bunch of games in which they played. THANK YOU GUYS for letting me see you play and good luck at the next level.
Panther running back, Jamontae Foster who is a sophomore, had 8 carries for 81 yards. Foster had a pretty good sophomore season…96 carries for 691 yards and 9 touchdowns. Just like, Aedric Robinson, a junior running back from Warren, Foster will be one to watch next season.
The Madison Mavericks ran 61 plays for 449 yards. Cody Ennis, the quarterback, was 13 of 22 passing for 204 yards and 2 touchdowns and he also had 18 carries for 80 yards and 2 touchdowns. I think I found my Week 12 stat/player of the week!!! Cody is having a marvelous season…2,800 yards passing with 33 touchdowns and 5 interceptions and 697 yards rushing with 15 touchdowns. WOW!!!
I was really impressed with Ja’Michael Brown, a junior wide receiver for Madison. Brown had 4 receptions for 120 yards and 2 touchdowns. I heard he also a pretty good basketball player…hmm, maybe I can catch a Madison basketball game. Byron Daniels had 3 receptions for 37 yards.
The running back for Madison, Dominque Daniels, had 16 carries for 125 yards and 2 touchdowns.
Madison has speed and the big play capability. They will play Mission Sharyland (12-0) at 2 p.m. Friday at Buccaneer Stadium in Corpus Christi.
If Madison wins next week and Judson wins next week, Madison and Judson will play each other in a HUGE Week 14 5A-DI quarterfinal playoff game somewhere in San Antonio. WOW!!!
For Week 13, TSRN San Antonio has Judson, Steele, Brennan, Harlandale, Alamo Heights, and Falls City. Not sure if we are gonna pick-up Johnson and Madison but we may pick-up some other schools.
I LOVE HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL!!!
On Tuesday, I will bet attending a St. Anthony Yellow Jacket basketball game. I will be a “freelance sports writer (I won’t be doing stats). So, you may be wondering why St. Anthony and why basketball? Well, I will tell you…The Head Coach for the St. Anthony basketball team is Kevin Smisek. Kevin saw my High School Football BLOG last year and he wanted me to attend some games and write about them. So, after football season ended, I switched gears to High School Basketball. I had such a great time at all the games I attended and definitely planned on doing it again. Yes, I know football is still going on but I figured a few games won’t hurt me (that way, I can get to know the team) before I really dive in next year!!
On Friday, I will be at the Judson/Laredo United game and Steele/Edinburgh North play after at same venue, so I may have a double header…not yet set in stone!!
Brennan plays on Saturday, so I may be at that game…not yet confirmed.
As soon as my Week 13 schedule is confirmed, I will post it on my blog, Twitter, and Facebook.
