The Harlandale Indians defeated the Southside Cardinals by a score of 21 to 14.
I gotta give a lot of kudos to the Southside Cardinals. They fought and played hard and never gave up. The quarterback for Southside is Johnny Trevino and I was on his bandwagon from start to finish will be a Johnny follower for 2 more years as he is only a Sophomore. He was 10 for 17 passing for 164 yards with 1 touchdown and 1 interception. He also had 15 carries for 43 yards. Noe Zavala, a wide receiver, had 7 receptions for 106 yards and the lone passing touchdown.
This was my first chance to see the highly talented quarterback for Harlandale, Brandon Ramon and folks, I was really impressed with his leadership and getting the job done skills. Ramon was 19 for 29 passing for 210 yards and 2 touchdowns. He also had 1 rushing touchdown. I hope I get another opportunity to see him play this season…maybe a playoff game!!! Ian Martinez, a wide receiver, had 6 receptions for 93 yards and 1 touchdown.
Next Thursday, I will be at Farris stadium for a District 27-5A game between the Brandeis Broncos and the Marshall Rams.
On Friday, I will be at D W Rutledge stadium for a District 25-5A game between the New Braunfels Canyon Cougars and the Judson Rockets.
And, on Saturday, I will be at Benson stadium on the campus of Incarnate Word for the St. Anthony Yellow Jackets as they host Austin St. Michaels. I am not doing stats!!! I am going to be a “freelance sports reporter.” Hopefully no sunburn since this a night game!
