There were lightning delays at Gus stadium and D W Rutledge stadium last night, but at our game, no delays. The only weather thingie I had to deal with was the humidity while I was hanging banners…less than 10 minutes outside and I was sweating like I just ran a marathon!!! But, man, thank god the press-box has a/c cause it sure felt really nice after I hung the banners!!!
The Stevens Falcons have a running back named Marquie Hinton. In 2011, Hinton had 448 yards rushing and last year he had 1,715 yards rushing. Coming into last nights game, Hinton had 677 yards rushing (he has already one 300 yard game this season). By the numbers, he is one of the best in the city, but every time I have seen him, his numbers are far below what I expect…I have never seen him have a HUGE game!! So, I was really hoping last night would be the game where his numbers would be unbelievable, but I kinda knew that Hinton having a great game would be tough since the opponent was the Brandeis Broncos and they always play excellent defense.
Well, to show you how good the Brandeis defense was last night, the Stevens Falcons ran a total of 47 plays for 163 yards. But, wait…it gets worse. In the 2nd half, Stevens ran 14 plays for 15 yards!!!
Marquie Hinton, the running back, had 7 carries for 24 yard and 3 receptions for 37 yards and the only touchdown for the Falcons. Quarterback, Bobby Chacon, was 14 for 25 for 124 yards with 1 touchdown and 1 interception. On the ground, Chacon had 11 carries for 24 yards.
The Brandeis Broncos ran 58 plays for 451 yards. Brian Chapman, the quarterback, was 10 for 15 for 225 yards and 4 touchdowns. Larry Stephens, the wide receiver, had 5 receptions for 163 yards and 3 touchdowns. Yeah, both had some excellent fantasy numbers!!
The Broncos had 216 yards on the ground and 1 touchdown which was spread to 7 different running backs. The running back who I was most impressed with was Sophomore Jaylen Dukes. Dukes had 9 carries for 59 yards.
The Brandeis Broncos defeated the Stevens Falcons by a final score of 42 to 7.
Brandeis remains undefeated in District 27-5A and they are probably gonna remain undefeated and ultimately end up being the District 27-5A champion! Man, that sounds like deja vu cause the Broncos have been the cream of the crop since 2009.
This Tuesday, I will publish photos of the Alamo stadium renovation that I snapped on Friday as part of the KSAT 12 feature story that featured me!!!
On Thursday, I will be at Gustafson stadium another District 27-5A game between the Warren Warriors and Holmes Huskies.
On Friday, I am probably going to be at Farris stadium again for yet another District 27-5A game between the Marshall Rams and the O’Connor Panthers. The Judson Rockers are off.
And, on Saturday, I will be attending a St. Anthony Yellow Jacket football game at the University of the Incarnate Word. I was invited by Diana Rybczynski, the mother of running back Marc Rybczynski. Marc was on the basketball team last season and I attended several games and wrote about it. The starting quarterback, Brandon Armstrong, was also on the basketball team.
You know something, I am really looking forward to this game as I am not planning to use my TSRN media pass to gain free entry nor am I going to do stats. I want to be a fan and experience it as a fan. Oh, it is also homecoming for St. Anthony so that will be fun to see. I am dragging somebody with me to this game and it is not my wife or my official photographer (my Dad). It is my buddy Anthony Lecocke.
