Last night, I was at Heroes stadium for a District 26-5A game between the Madison Mavericks and the Roosevelt Roughriders. This was my first time this season seeing both of these teams and I was really excited to finally see Madison. The only other team I really want to see is the Smithson Valley Rangers and I will see em on Friday, October 19th when they play the Judson Rockets in Converse.
Madison is known for being a running team. In the past, they had a Green or Devin Thomas running the ball. This year, Madison has Marquis Warford and Galen McAllister. Last year, Warford had over 2,000 yards rushing and Galen had over 1,000 yards rushing. I wax expecting Madison to let Marquis and Galen run all over the field, but that didn’t happen. The Madison quarterback, Cody Ennis, was marvelous and showcased his passing skills.
The Mavericks ran 53 plays for 502 yards…they have so many weapons, so choose wisely!!!
Quarterback…Cody Ennis…16 for 25 passing for 283 yards with 4 touchdowns and 1 interception
Receiver…Byron Daniels…7 receptions for 114 yards with 2 touchdowns
Receiver…Marquis Warford…1 reception for 36 yards and that was the first of 6 touchdowns for Madison
Receiver…Ja’Michael Brown…4 receptions for 91 yards with 1 touchdown
Running back…Marquis Warford…9 carries for 55 yards and 2 touchdowns
Running back…Galen McAllister…11 carries for 94 yards
Running back…Cody Ennis…4 carries for 67 yards
Pretty impressive overall game by Madison!!! Cody Ennis looked real sharp. Man, they are gonna be a really tough team to beat.
Roosevelt ran 80 plays for 379 yards. Yes, 80 plays…half of them were passes!!! The quarterback, Jacob Preciado, was 18 for 30 passing for 195 yards with 2 interceptions. He also had 67 yards on the ground. All game long, Bobby Stautzenberger had a really hard time pronouncing his name!!! Frank Barnes, a running back, had a total of 106 yards of offense. I really like Carl Whitley, the wide receiver. He had 8 receptions for 82 yards and 1 touchdown.
Roosevelt looked like they were in awe of the Madison offense.
Madison was winning the game 42 to 21 with :20 left in the game. Roosevelt had just scored and was kicking off to Madison. Marquis Warford caught the kickoff and returned it for a touchdown, but supposedly, he was taunting before he scored so the officials called the touchdown back!!! These are just my opinions, but why the fuck is he in the game with a huge lead and doesn’t he have any respect to just run around the field and let the clock wind down and not score?
As Week 5 is just about ready to be wrapped up, I thought I should provide my top 6 teams and I am only going by the games I have worked:
1. STEELE
2. BRANDEIS
3. BRENNAN
4. MADISON
5. JUDSON
6. O’CONNOR
FINAL SCORE
Madison 42 (4-2, 2-0)
Roosevelt 21 (4-2, 1-1)
Tonight I am at Farris stadium for yet another District 27-5A game between the O’Connor Panthers and the Marshall Rams.
I am glad I finally got this article published. Now, I can relax on the sofa and watch college football for a few hours before I leave for Farris.
