I don’t want to hear any negative feedback (like, I am not a true high school football fan). Sometimes you have to give something up that you’re really passionate about (hopefully, it will only be this year) to make your family happy. Oh, I am happy with my choice because I won’t get worn down or stressed out. Now, when the Playoffs start, I will have to wait and see on whether or not I will cover some games.
On Thursday’s, I will be the statistician for Thursday Night Lights on CW35 in San Antonio or online at www.kmys.tv/tnl. I have been the statistician since the beginning in 2009. The broadcasters, Don Harris (play-by-play) from News 4 San Antonio and Chuck Miketinec (color) from Fox 29 San Antonio, will be in their 4th year. Yep, I got more experience than these 2 San Antonio icons of TV media.
I had no clue on what I would be doing on Friday’s and Saturday’s this year. I had a few ideas written down. I had even requested some Friday’s off from my full-time job to help make it easier for my wife and I.
On July 7th (while we were at my son’s 2 month appointment), St. Anthony Catholic High School approached me about covering the football team. I am not a stranger to St. Anthony as I covered basketball games in 2013, 2014, and this year. The Head Coach of the basketball team was Kevin Smisek. This year, Coach Smisek will be in his 1st year as the Head Coach of the football team.
After I reviewed the schedule and explained my plans to my wife, I accepted the offer. With that being said, on Friday’s and Saturday’s, I will be covering St. Anthony Yellow Jacket football.
I am super excited for this opportunity and can’t wait to get started in a few weeks with either a practice or a scrimmage.
