Week 2 – Pleasanton Eagles Vs Lanier Voks

Last night, I was as at the Spring Sports complex for the Pleasanton Eagles Vs Lanier Voks.

The last Lanier game I worked was last season was on Thursday Night Lights.  In that game the running back, Isaac Cervantes, had 28 carries for 210 yards and 1 touchdown; incredible.   But, he got injured  in the 3rd quarter and that injury forced him to miss the rest of the season.  He is healthy now and in the first 2 games this season, he has had over 100 yards rushing in each game.    Talk about recovering!!!

I also worked a Pleasanton game last season on Thursday Night Lights.  The quarterback, Luke Walters, was 20 for 35 passing for 270 yards and 2 touchdowns in that game; very impressive.  Jacob Jandt and Mike Sorola, the wide receivers, combined for 11 receptions for 192 yards and both touchdowns.  Three talented and explosive players and hey, guess what, they are back this season for there Senior year!!!

The stormy clouds hovering above the stadium.

We always have a sideline reporter on Thursday Night Lights and this season, it is Mike Hernandez.  Mike is the weatherman on Fox29.  He had a portable weather radar and we all kinda knew bad weather was approaching so when lightening arrived, the officials, coaches, and athletic staff suspended the game with 9:37 left in the third quarter and Pleasanton was crushing Lanier 42-7.  A few minutes later the game was called over.  I think that was the 2nd time in my 16 years that I have a worked an incomplete game.   I hope I don’t get an incomplete paycheck!!!

Our press-box was a small aluminum box with lots of cables and electrical plugs!!!  Really safe…I know!!!  But hey if something happened and we had to run for it, I jokingly asked Wane if he can carry me on his shoulders since he was a very fast runner in high school, college, and professional football!!!

Isaac Cervantes looked very good in 1 half of play for the Lanier Voks.  He had 19 carries for 129 yards and 1 touchdown.  The rest of the Lanier offense had just 41 yards combined.

The Pleasanton Eagles were unstoppable!  Luke Walters, the quarterback, was 15 for 21 passing for 240 yards and 5 touchdowns.  That was for one half of play plus the first 2:23 in the 3rd quarter.  Jacob Jandt, a wide receiver, had 6 catches for 129 yards and 1 touchdown.  Mike Sorola, another wide receiver, had 3 catches for 28 yards and both were touchdowns.  Sorola also had a 55 yard interception return for a touchdown.    I heard a rumor last night that some of the Ivy League colleges are looking at Luke Walters!  Wow, smart and athletic!!

I gotta say the Pleasanton Eagles are the best passing team that I will probably see this season for a local team.  Lake Travis by far is the best passing team in the state and I saw them in Week 0.

Tonight, I am at Farris stadium for a District 27-5A game between the Clark Cougars and the O’Connor Panthers.  I am curious to see how the Cougars will bounce back from a loss and a really poor 2nd half last week

Tomorrow night, I am Gustafson stadium for another District 27-5A game between the Brandeis Broncos and the Warren Warriors.  I am looking forward to seeing Trinton Ynclan, the running back for Brandeis for the first time this season.  I really am impressed with Aron Taylor, the wide receiver from Warren.  I just hope Warren chooses an easier jersey to the numbers

FINAL SCORECalled in the 3rd quarter due to weather

Pleasanton        42  (3-0, 0-0)

Lanier                7   (0-3, 0-0)
