Week 3 – East Central Hornets vs Judson Rockets

Last night, I was at Rutledge stadium for the East Central Hornets and the Judson Rockets.

I mentioned in my article yesterday that I was shocked that the Hornets were ranked so high by the SanAntonio Express News in the preseason rankings. East Central’s star running back, Chris Armstrong, didn’t play so it was hard to judge how good they are, but I can tell you that there defense played really good and kept em in the game and the back-up running backs had solid performances. I can’t wait to see Chris play in a few weeks on Thursday Night Lights; just hope he gets healthy quickly cause they will be a real dangerous team in the playoff’s.

Jeremy and Christian Jones are the quarterbacks for the Hornets and man I had absolutely no clue which one was taking snaps. Why? I will tell you…they wore white jerseys with very light gold numbers.  Thank god Bobby Stautzenberger had binoculars cause I relied heavily on his call!!! I actually considered combining both Jones’s into one player just to make it easier for me.  Shit, they will be the road team in a few weeks on Thursday Night Lights when they play the Steele Knights at Lehnhoff. At least we will be a lot closer to the field so that may help a tiny bit.

Combined, the running backs for the Hornets carried the ball 62 times for 247 yards and 3 touchdowns.  Javion Polk, led the team with 98 yards rushing but Caid Franckowiak led the team with 2 rushing touchdowns.  Pretty impressive offensive line and man, when Chris Armstrong returns, watch out!!!

The Judson Rockets, each game, are improving on offense.  They ran a total of 59 plays for 462 yards.  Jarveon Williams, the running back, had 21 carries for 179 yards and 1 touchdown, but that touchdown was a 79 yard run!!!  Wow.  Brandon Sanders, a back-up, running back had 4 carries for 74 yards and 1 touchdown; that touchdown run was 40 yards and was amazing.  Up in the booth, it liked he was tackled at for no gain but he never hit the ground and kept the feet moving and reversed his direction to score.  Wow!!  I wish we had a replay of it.  Rayjohn Austin-Ramsey, the quarterback, had a very nice game also.  He was 15 for 24 passing for 173 yards and 1 touchdown; he spread the ball around to 6 receivers.

A few things the Judson Rockets need to work for next week is turnovers and special teams.  They had 4 turnovers last night and 2 of them were on a muffed punt.

FINAL SCORE

East Central  18 (2-2, 0-0)

Judson          28  (2-2, 0-0)

Check out my blog tomorrow as I will have an article about the UTSA football game that I worked this afternoon.

Next Thursday, I will be at Gustafson stadium for another District 27-5A game between the Brandeis Broncos and the Stevens Falcons.

Not sure where I am at on Friday and Saturday. Judson plays at Corpus Christi Carroll on Friday and I am unable to travel to that particular game. As soon as I know, I will update my high school football schedule page.
