st anthony vs tmi

On Tuesday, I was at TMI for a High School Basketball game between the TMI Panthers and the St. Anthony Yellow Jackets. This was my first time on the TMI campus and let me tell you that it is an absolutely gorgeous campus and the views of the Texas hill country are magnificent.  I walked around before the game and saw the football field, the baseball field, and the swimming area…all very nice and WOW!!!!!!

The gymnasium, though, wasn’t spectacular…it kinda resembled the Hive; probably a tad smaller!!!  Now, there was another gym next door and it didn’t even have any stands.  Outside both gyms was a long hallway that displayed lots of TMI trophy’s…I gotta admit, that was pretty awesome to see all the TMI history.

Hey, I got some pre-game audio with Coach Smisek and I think it flowed very well.  I actually published the interview on Tuesday evening after I got home from the game; I didn’t want to hold on to it till today.  My wife and I took some time away from the world and went to the beach on Wednesday and Thursday.

At halftime, TMI led 38 to 16 and everything went TMI’s way; easy layups and three pointers!!

Whatever Coach Smisek told the Yellow Jackets at halftime worked because in the 2nd half, St. Anthony outscored TMI 42 to 21; they hustled on defense and got a a lot of steals in the back court.

I know that in your mind, you’re adding the numbers to get the final score (let me help you as adding and subtracting numbers is my job…TMI 59 and St. Anthony 58).   The Yellow Jackets needed like 20 more seconds and they probably would’ve come away with an unbelievable comeback victory!!!

Had St. Anthony played the first half like 2nd half, the score would’ve been different.

Had TMI missed most of the first half three pointers, the score would’ve been different.

Had some calls gone St. Anthony’s way, the score would’ve been different.   Throughout the game, I heard some Yellow Jackets fans who did’t agree with some of the calls.  I have learned my lesson and I won’t say anything negative about the officiating.  Last year, I complained (in my blog) about the refs from a High School Football game I worked; well, the head official found my comments and emailed me.  We communicated back and forth several times and  I am happy to say that we are on very good terms.

Funny random side note about that official…his mother was the Vice Principle where I, my brother, and my cousins attended middle school.  He was also in the replay booth at UTSA Football games last year and I was doing stats for the spanish radio crew for UTSA Football games and our booths were next to each other and yes, I eventually did meet him a few weeks after our email exchanges.

The TMI Panthers were led by LeSean Brown who had 18 points and Travis Haiduk who scored 21 pints and was 3 of 6 from 3-point land.

Brandon Armstrong, the talented sophomore Yellow Jacket, led all scorers with 26 points.  I wasn’t keeping track but when I saw how many points he had, I was surprised cause they came quickly in the 2nd half!

Daniel Brown and Isiah Saenz had 10 points each, Jonatan Reyes scored 6 points, Jax Chavez had 4 points, and Ricardo Valadez scored 4 points.

I finally got to meet Jax’s mother, Janine (she is a Facebook friend of mine and Twitter follow of mine).

Another Twitter follower of mine, Javier Saenz was at the game and I answered one of his tweets to me and then when the game ended, I got the chance to say hi again (I have already met him).

Oh, I was also talking to Coach Smisek’s kids about High School Football!!!

See, not only do I love to write, I also love to talk so if you see me at game, please introduce yourself to me.  I will be the one with the TSRN media pass and a camera around my neck taking lots of pictures of the Yellow Jackets.
