Converse Judson FOOTBALL 2014

This BLOG was originally published in May but since the football season is 7 days away, I wanted to republish it (yes, I did update it a little bit).

On Thursday’s throughout the High School Football season, I am the stat man for Thursday Night Lights.

On Friday’s and Saturday’s, I am the stat man for the Texas Sports Radio Network.  It will be my 18th year…yeah, I guess you can call me the experienced veteran!!! My primary stat assignment for Fridays since 2004 has been where ever the Converse Judson Rockets play, I am there!!!

Just some quick notes about Judson football…

6 state championship, 37 consecutive winning seasons, and extremely passionate fans and alumni!!!

Going to a Judson football game must be on everybody’s bucket list cause it is electric and there is always mojo in the air.

Judson football is also considered one of the top 5 programs in the state of Texas.

Two former Judson football players, Philip Gaines and Chris McAllister were selected in the NFL draft this year…how awesome is that?

Here is the 2014 Converse Judson Football schedule (courtesy of http://judsonfootball.mobi/):

Some of the players I am looking forward to see are: Malik Taylor, Nick Ortiz, Michael Akai, and Kevion Ramsey.  Unfortunately, Kevion tore his ACL and his out for the season (that sucks and I really hope he can recover from it).  Kevion hung out with Bobby Stautzenberger and I in the press-box when he was a freshman and sophomore.  I know in Dave Campbell’s Texas Football magazine (High School Preview), Kevion was listed as a pre-season defensive MVP for the district.

Oh, the Rockets also have a NEW head coach in Sean McAuliffe (but the good thing is the fact that he is a former Rocket)!!

I sure am looking forward to every single Judson game.  Man, from Week 1 to Week 10, the Judson Rockets have a tough schedule…probably one of the toughest in the state of Texas.  All but Wagner made the playoffs last year.

There 4 non-district games opponents combined record last year was 47 wins and 7 losses!!!  Pflugerville Hendrickson and Brennan had undefeated regular seasons.  Brennan’s only loss came in the state championship game.

Is 25-6A the best district in the state of Texas?  I say yes!!!  You got Judson, Steele (they won the state championship in 2010, lost the state championship in 2011, lost in the semifinals in 2012, and last year they lost a heart-breaker to Johnson in the quarterfinals), and Smithson Valley (they have yet to win a state championship but have come close a few times and I wouldn’t be surprised if they get one sooner rather than later).    I just have a feeling that every week in district play will be an absolute battle and quite possibly a game of the week candidate.

Some of the other district games that are I would like to see and work (but probably won’t get the chance because I will be at the Judson games) are: Steele Vs Clemens, Steele Vs Smithson Valley, and New Braunfels Vs New Braunfels Canyon (isn’t this game called the Wurst Bowl).

The Rockets district opponents combined record last year was 40 wins and 28 losses…but one team, the Wagner Thunderbirds went winless and the Smithson Valley Rangers had an undefeated regular season.

I kinda have a feeling that when they host the Smithson Valley Rangers (in Week 10), this game could be for the district 25-6A champion…but I also have a feeling Steele will have something to say about that as well!!!

Even though I have a full-time job, my boss at Chase bank approved 8/29/2014 as a vacation day so I can go to Pflugerville Hendrickson (I have never been to Pflugerville in my many many years as a stat man and am really excited to finally get the opportunity to go).  Last year, I took the first Friday off to attend the Judson game at Lake Travis (that was my first time at Lake Travis…besides Judson, Lake Travis is another one of the top 5 programs in the state of Texas; they won 5 consecutive state championships from 2007 to 2011).

I also will be off 10/10/2014 but not to attend the Judson Rockets at New Braunfels….that is my 4 year wedding anniversary and I will be with my wife celebrating; no football for me (I have my priorities folks).

I will again be writing about each game I work and have done that for the past 3 season and I love it.

For Judson games last year, I tweeted stats to @Judsonfootball and I am looking forward to doing that again as it really helped promote my BLOG!!

I am all over the SOCIAL MEDIA…Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest, and Instagram; so PLEASE check me out!!!
