Week 16 – Steele VS Katy Preview

On Saturday, the Steele Knights will play the Katy Tigers at Reliant stadium.  Yeah, I know that Reliant is now named NRG stadium (does that stand for Nuclear Recourse Group?), but I will always refer to the stadium as Reliant.  It’s like when The Alamodome changes its name to the MDLBLOG.COM Dome (it’s only a matter of time folks), it will always be The Alamodome to me!! Change is hard for me to embrace!!!

So, the last time I was at Reliant stadium was December 10th, 2011…the Steele Knights defeated the Port Arthur Memorial Titans in the state semi-final 51 to 31.  Justin Stockton, the Steele running back, had 13 carries for 209 yards and 1 touchdown.  Tommy Armstrong, the Steele quarterback had 248 total yards and 5 touchdowns.   If you watch any Bowl games, I urge you to watch Texas Tech (Stockton is the running back) and Nebraska (Tommy is the quarterback).  The Knights lost in the state championship to Spring Dekaney in 2011.

Two years ago today, the Steele Knights defeated the Brandeis Broncos by a score of 28 to 12.  Justin Stockton didn’t start cause he was sick but he still had 12 carries for 204 yards and 2 touchdowns.  Jordan Sterns, started at running back, and he had 13 carries for 87 yards and 2 touchdowns.  Stearns plays for Oklahoma State University.   The Knights lost to Katy (yeah, her again) the following week in the state semi-finals.

Here is a quick summary on the Katy Tigers (courtesy of Wikipedia and Chron.om): State Championships: 1959, 1997, 2000, 2003, 2007, 2008, and 2012.  Katy is 13 and 1 this year and are led by running backs Rodney Anderson who has 208 carries for 2,291 yards and 36 touchdowns and Kyle Porter who has 955 yards and 17 touchdowns.  The quarterback is Garrett Doiron who has 1,623 passing yards with 21 touchdowns and 8 interceptions.  In their 4 playoff games this year, they have scored 73, 76, 63 and 45 points.

The Steele Knights will have to play a perfect game and I know they can do it!!!  I am expecting both Steele and Judson to win on Saturday which means both will be playing in a state championship game at Texas stadium (or Cowboys stadium or AT&T stadium or Jerry World)!!!!
