While I was sick a few weeks ago (it was a nagging cough that wouldn’t go away), I watched several awesome sports documentaries: I hate Christian Laettner (about Duke player Christian Laettner), The Sixth Man (about Kentucky Wildcat college basketball fans), Rand University (about Randy Moss), Bernie and Ernie (about Bernard King and Ernie Grunfeld when they played at Tennessee University together from 73-77), The House that Steinbrenner Built (about the NY Yankees), When the Garden was Eden (about the NY Knicks from 69-75), Survive and Advance (about the NC State National Championship in 1983), and Free Spirits (about the ABA team the St Louis Spirits from 74-76).
I do have an app on my phone that provides me with sports scores and stats, but I use it primarily to see if the San Antonio Spurs won. I also have Twitter and Facebook where I am also provided with updates from sporting events…mainly High School sports.
So, with no knowledge (well, I do know Kentucky is undefeated) of this years college basketball season, I thought I would make my picks based on absolutely nothing!! I do know that rarely not all 4 number 1 seeds make the final four and I will take that fact into consideration. I also have to consider underdogs cause every year, a Cinderella team makes it to the Elite 8. No money will be wagered as this is for fun purposes only.
I actually have 3 BRACKETS where I have picked the Final Four teams and my sweet wife also picked her Final Four. You know something, hers actually has a better chance of happening than mine and yours!!!
BRACKET 1 — The Texas Teams
Midwest -Texas
West – Baylor
East – Oklahoma (that is the closest team to Texas)
South – SMU
National Championship – Texas VS SMU
Champion – SMU (I would love to see former Spurs head coach Larry Brown win another national college championship)
BRACKET 2 — My Fun Teams
Midwest -Buffalo
West – Georgia State
East – Albany
South – S.F. Austin (I think they have the best mascot of all the teams…they are the LUMBERJACKS)
National Championship – Buffalo VS Albany
Champion – Buffalo (dude, I had no clue that former Duke Blue Devils player Bobby Hurley is the head coach)
BRACKET 3 — My Reality Teams
Midwest -Kentucky
West – Arizona (Hey, it’s former Spur and current Spurs broadcaster Sean Elliott’s college)
East – Louisville
South – Georgetown (anything with the name of George has gotta be good, smart, and extremely knowledgeable just like my Uncle George who passed away a few years ago)
National Championship – Kentucky VS Louisville
Champion – Kentucky (why not folks…they are undefeated)
BRACKET 4 — Nina’s Teams
Midwest – Notre Dame (I knew somebody who played football their and he was a big jerk. Wait, I thought this was for football…oh well)
West – Ole Miss (I really like the name Ole Miss…it’s funny)
East – Virginia (I wanted to attend Virginia and it was founded by Thomas Jefferson)
South – Utah (Since their isn’t anything to do in Utah, they must be good at sports)
National Championship – Ole Miss VS Virginia
Champion – Virginia
As you can see from my 3 BRACKETS, I got in state rivals playing each other for the National Championship…New York, Texas, and Kentucky. Man, those 3 states are mecca for college basketball.
