Week 1 – Judson Vs Steele

I was at a packed Lehnfoff stadium on Friday for the Judson Rockets and the Steele Knights.  I expected Judson to play better than they did last week when they got crushed by Lake Travis.  I didn’t expect Judson to score 35 points and be tied with Steele late in the game.  Had Judson not turned the ball over 5 times, this game could have easily been the upset of the year!

We all know that Steele is going to give the ball to Justin Stockton, the running back.  Stockton had an amazing game with 28 carries for 240 yards and 2 touchdowns.  Man, Justin is fucking fast and hard to tackle.  And, he only a Junior!!!  Wow!  When Stockton got a breather, his back-up DeAngelo Wallace, carried the load with 11 carries for 54 yards!  Pretty good combination and it keeps Stockton fresh.  Matt Mayle, the wide receiver, had a very nice game with 4 catches for 75 yards and a highlight reel touchdown reception!

Despite the 5 turnovers by the Rockets, they looked great on offense.  Jarveon Williams, the running back, has 28 carries for 180 yards and 2 touchdowns.  Jarveon doesn’t get any time to sit out a play since he also plays on defense.  Rayjohn Austin-Ramsey, the quarterback, was 14 for 26 passing for 156 yards and 3 interceptions.  He will learn from those mistakes.  The Rockets ran a total of 71 plays for 297 yards.

Okay, so I was really impressed by the massive offensive improvement from Week 0 to Friday night for the Judson Rockets.

And, well, Steele is really good and full of experienced players.  Stockton is an exciting player to watch.

Next Wednesday, Texas Bob will be my guest blogger on Inside the Huddle.

Next Thursday, I will be at the Spring Sports complex for Thursday Nights Lights.

Not sure where I will be on Friday and Saturday.  Check my high school football schedule for updates.

I got the best wife in the world.  When I came home a few minutes before midnight, there was pecan crusted chicken from HEB in the fridge; one of my favorite foods!!

FINAL SCORE

Steele     42  (2-0, 0-0)

Judson     35  (0-2, 0-0)
